Hehe.
Ok, I'm reluctantly blogging now. Just seem to lack the 'ooomph' to blog..
How's NUS/Singapore?
People here start studying in week 1/before Week 1.
:-O :-O :-O
My first few weeks in UM are usually spent relaxing/playing badminton/playing guitar/anything but study. True, I'll be behind in the books/readings but hey, so are the majority of my beloved coursemates. The only time I truly prepared for classes would be in my first sem, when as a noob you've no idea what's counted and what's not in your grades.
Here... guess what?
I'm actually going AHEAD of my readings! (Well I was initially few days behind in my first couple of weeks but I soon realised that people here don't work that way so I bucked up.) hahaha. Now I'm reading for weeks AHEAD! Because of the pressure. And the fact that I have no idea what to expect in classes/academically so I had best prepare myself in what ways I can.
The academic environment here is pretty good, plenty of places to study. I'm in University Town, the newest addition to NUS/most expensive place/exorbitant rates.. but hey, it's 50X better than the hostels in UM. Hahaha. I honestly think UM offers one of the worst hostels... overcrowded and small rooms. That being said, I've only seen UNIMAS and USM hostels.. but the other unis are less crowded/newer/hence more space/more human rights I guess.
Hmm. Lost my blogging ooomph.
Skyped with Elaine today! :-) She has officially survived orientation week in USM (although it sounds as if they weren't treated like prison inmates and were pretty lax about the whole thing) so she's officially a uni student now! *So proud of her.* Uni will be a fantastic experience for her! Planning to visit her and CP in Dec if I can, I've never actually had a real reason to drop by Penang and enjoy it.
Skyped with Joash too.. haha, we still message and call each other everyday... except that now we can't meet face to face so frequently. :-( As a result of that, I did a love language test today and my new love language is physical touch! haha. Used to be quality time (which was 2nd highest). Ah well, seeing him soon. And I did see him 3 weeks ago.. made an impulsive trip back to KL and gave my mum a pleasant surprise. But kinda lacked spending enough quality time with everyone during the last trip so I'm hoping my next one will be better.
Life here is... safe. Peaceful. I guess the fact that I only have to take care of myself here makes it kinda relaxing. Haha. Me, myself and I.
I won't say I miss home, I miss the people back home. If Joash and other beloved people were to be right here with me I won't pine for 'home' at all. Hahaha. ;-)
Church, I'm pretty happy with where I am. Joined a small home church cause I kept in contact with Ps. Ong since I met him a couple of years back, am glad I did! haha. Since that meets Friday nights, I'm free to explore churches on Sundays. And as I like to say, Ps. Low has given me permission to 'church-hop' since I'm not looking for a permanent church to stay here. =P Haha! I've been in contact with the in-laws, mum-in-law uses her iTalk card to call me. But I think we'll stick to Skype-dates soon.. wonders of the internet.
All in all, I'm happy here in NUS. It's been a fantastic experience thus far.. Miss my coursemates and uni-mates back in UM though, will be dropping by to see them when I'm back for my term break! =)
Off to bed now, God bless ya,
Jo
