A while back, UM nominated me for an exchange programme in NUS (TF LEaRN Programme @NUS). It's a programme that is suppose to 'groom Asian leaders' or something along those lines.
It's 1 semester (Aug - Dec 2012). I was hoping I wouldn't get it so I wouldn't have to make hard choices. Haha. The only criteria I really fulfilled for this programme was being in the top 10% academically in uni, but the others like community service and leadership I had close to zero. Most of my certs were badminton certs. Lol. Only real community service proof I had was when I worked with Kiwanis Down Syndrome Foundation kids.
But I had a very strong referral letter by a lecturer who wrote 2 pages about everything I've done (ranging from playing badminton on a 'national level' to giving tuition to underprivileged children).
Anyway, I digress. On Monday, I received an email that I had been awarded the programme, along with a full scholarship that would (hopefully) cover my cost of living there. Thankfully my 2 other coursemates who were nominated received it as well!
Still, it's a hard choice to make. Hard in the sense only Joash and I will understand I guess.
But it's a wonderful opportunity, and NUS ain't that far, and I've got good friends studying in there, and my cousin lectures there (heck, when I'm bored of Singapore I can just follow him back to JB everyday). I know a pastor there who has already invited me to his church when I told him about this last time, and I guess culturally I'll have no problem fitting in. It's SINGAPORE, after all. Haha, I may even fit in better there socially as compared to Malaysia. -__-
Hahaha. So why the reluctance and hesitance?
Just because.
May have to extend my studies because of this, credits are transferable but we can't take that many courses there. Maximum of 4 modules.. (I usually take 6-7 subjects per sem here)
Just realised I forgot to inform the in-laws about this! Oh, they came down last weekend for Lynas and Bersih and joined PPBC, and we had lunch together! We must make a trip back to Kuantan soon...
Ok, back to work.
Have fun and God bless!
Jo
