Proud Mother Blogging..

Looking at my title..

"YOU GAVE BIRTH???!"

Hmm..

Of course not lah! But my babies, dear hamsters are now proud parents of 2! Well, it was 3, but one died. Super cute.

I read that Winter White Pearl male hamsters are usually infertile, and well, I thought mine was too. Hence, I never worried about my Winter White Pudding female getting pregnant, so I let them live together..

Of course, my hamster had to turned out to be one of those 'low percentage' fertile males.. as I found out yesterday afternoon. It was a pleasant surprise, of course.

My WW Pudding has been very fat for a long time now. I suspected that she was pregnant long ago, but when I counted 21 days and still no babies, then 2-3 weeks passed and I thought 'Ok, my hamster is just a greedy fella and hoards food and eats a lot'.

So imagine my surprise when I opened the cage to give it new food(cat food, actually. =P It looked nice so I bought it. Hehehe. Turns out it was really a perfect coincidence.. cause my hamster had just given birth and needed the protein that the new food had to offer).

Anyway, I opened the cage to give it the new food, then to my shock and.. surprise and I-dunno-what-feelings, I saw the WW Pudding carrying a baby in its mouth! I was so shocked I just shut the cage and yelled... MOM!!!! Hahahahaha! Natural reaction, no? =P Anyway, she hurried over and together we looked in the cage.. both hamsters(dad and mom) were in the 'toilet container'... we couldn't see any wriggling babies.. so I thought that I imagined it for a moment.. after all, I just saw it for a split second before I yelled. Hahaha.

Then 1 of the hamsters left the container.. and I saw a wriggling red thing after moving around the whole cage to get a proper look inside the container..

There were 3 babies in all. But last night the mother was carrying one in her mouth, and left it somewhere. When I saw it, it wasn't wriggling..

So as I suspected, this morning there were only 2 wriggling babies left. But those 2 look healthy and strong. Pretty strong lungs too, for me to hear their squealing. Hehehe.

Anyway, allow the following pictures to do the talking...

My WW Pearl and WW Pudding when they were just babes themselves.. =)

How it all started.. so innocently.. who said kissing doesn't bring any harm? =D

Rated 18 and above! (Oops, I'm only 17)

Eh I meant what I said k.. Rated 18 and above!

The Result?? Need I explain further??

The fella on the right is saying "Hi!"

A closer look.. They somehow resemble their parents in the 1st picture, don't they?

Okay, just their positions I meant. =P

Soooo overjoyed over them! Both the parents and the babies. =) Parents are about 3-4 months old now, and a really loving couple. Seriously! The way they sleep against each other.. =P Not to mention when they chase each other to *ahem* make babies..

I've got to force myself out of the house to prevent myself from hovering over the cage. hahaha! The last pic you see shows my 2 hammies taking a break from being parents. No, I did not separate the dad cause he has been such a good dad.. bringing tissue to the nest, lying next to the babies to give them warmth when mom goes for a break... cleaning them up..

No animal lovers read my blog anyway, so I won't get hammered for not taking the dad out. Haha! I considered separating the dad, but I really don't have the necessary equipment to give him..

Also, I didn't take the wheel out of the cage because the babies came as a surprise.. and I've not seen the mom do anything stupid... like taking the baby and putting it in the wheel and then running the wheel..

Hopefully the remaining 2 survive.. can't wait to see what colours they'll be. =) Both parents are hybrids you see, so they can turn out to be any colour.. Agouti, Sapphire, Pearl, Pudding.. or one more that I'm hoping, Pearl Pudding. Pearl Puddings are really pretty. =)

I'm sounding like a lovesick mom, don't I? hahaha.

Okay, hammies aside, some serious stuff.

Yesterday I cycled to Kiwanis as usual.. only to be told that there was no class cause one of the teachers had passed away. Didn't get the exact story, but I think she passed away due to some illness.

Went today, enjoyed myself. We made banana pancake! Hahaha. And I didn't diarrhoea after that.. =D

Anyway, that's all for now.

God bless,
Joanne
