It's rare that consumerism consumes me. Usually I can just say no to things that my heart begins to want and walk away, the evil desire to spend unnecessarily will fade away fairly quickly.
But when it does consume me, it's usually for some ridiculously expensive thing. Which makes up for my lack of shopping non-stop like some girls are wont to do.
This time it's bad. -_- I've been wanting an Ipod Nano 6th Gen (the mightily CUUUTEEEE one!) for months now. And it's not going away although I rarely even entertain the idea of THINKING about it, much less walking into Apple stores and playing with it.
But it's at a ridiculous price of RM549 (for the 8gb version)! :(
Which is a complete turn off. At least, I wish it were a complete turn off. But it's not. :( Cause I still desire it, no matter how hard I'm fighting against it.
What makes it even more ridiculous is that my bro has told me I can use his Ipod Nano 4th Generation. Which means I have a very good music player in hand already.
So dramatic hor? But how?
I don't want it I don't want it I don't want it I don't want it I don't want it
:( I still want it.
Haha. I'll be fine, I will. :-)
Just thinking aloud. The power of consumerism. Dang, Steve Jobs is the cause of this!
Have a good day & God bless!

Haha! Hello Van! No prob, it's not really private (as you'd found out), just not well-publicized (if at all).
CP, can but duwan... heartache to spend so much on that tiny thing!
oi. consumerism is not good!!! hello, missed you :) go use that money for something better.
HARLO WAI YAN!!! Long time no seeeee!
Isit that bad? Consumerism means people can keep their jobs... from the sales people to the factory people to the logistics people to hmm... all levels. =P
well, if you look at it at just that level. yeah, it's not bad.
but when it starts taking over our lives it's damaging. we become more selfish and obsessive. and when consumerism creeps into the churches that's when you get people coming to churches to be pleased. if they don't like it, consumerism says you can just drop it for something that pleases you. that's why we get more entertaining churches which in the end defeats the whole purpose.
consumerism lah.
Haha, you completely missed my sarcasm in that reply. =P Sarcasm doesn't travel well through written words!
Of course consumerism in the extreme is extremely damaging (most things in the extreme would be damaging!)... but I do think we are allowed to buy unnecessary stuff to make ourselves/others happy occasionally. =) I believe consumerism helps to sustain many people's livelihood in this modern era.. whether urban or rural. It's a rather complicated economic cycle but ultimately I think consumerism definitely assists in providing people money for their daily necessities. =D The more people spend, the faster the economy booms, the faster it booms, the more salary people receive, the more salary people receive, the more poverty is eradicated in society! Haha!
Yes lah, consumerism cannot be allowed to take over our lives. =)
psst psst. guess what...
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
(kidding lah. i didn't go out and buy anything!)
hope the message travels well with words here.
