Maids

This topic.. well, will be kinda sensitive for some people with maids. I'm sorry if I offend you in any way, it's really not meant to offend anyone, just my point of view. Okay? =)

How many of us have maids? Quite a number. Now, I only had a maid when I was really young, 3 years old. She went off when I was 3, and my family has been without one since then. Nevertheless, my house is still spick and span, ask any visitor who dropped by my house before.. tis cleaner than most people who have maids too!

Maids are human beings too. I've seen maids being ordered around like dogs before, as if they are expected to serve their boss!

Oh fine. So they are supposed to serve them. I don't know. I feel a maid should help out with house hold chores.. but..

I don't know. I suppose I really don't understand. I've heard of maids being barred from stepping out of the house, using phones, watching tv, sleeping early.. etc.

I pity these maids. I seriously do.

Hello! Imagine you're working in a foreign country.

Now, imagine you're not allowed to use the phone to call your friends. You're not even allowed to get your own handphone, even if you pay for it yourself!

My my..

Next, you're not allowed out of your boss's house.

NOOO!

No social life!

Now.. the finale...

Imagine you're banned from even watching the TELEVISION! *GASP*

How many here can honestly say they can survive without the television??

I can, because I'm a reader. I only turn on the television when I'm really really bored, or my eyes are too strained from reading.

Okay, so we imagine that the maid is a book-worm. Fat chance.

Even worse! They don't have books to read!! It's likely that they'll want to buy some...

But because they aren't allowed out of the house...

No books.

Now you see the whole picture?

Still don't?

Okay, let me put it this way. What does your world revolve around?

1. Friends ---> which the maid won't have!
2. Phone ---> which the maid misses out on!
3. Internet ---> 200% you'll never allow her to touch the com!
4. Television ---> NOOOO! Another thing the maid misses out!

Still don't get it? Sorry, if you don't get it.. well, most people of average-intelligence would understand. I hope.

I know there are people out there that treat their maids wonderfully.. I've seen them before. I admired the maid, and the family. Most of all, I respected the parents the most. The way they treat the maid is the way the kids treat the maid.

I even saw them buy the maid a bowl of lasagna(which is not cheap in Secret Recipe!)! I really admired that family. Oh yeah. Definitely. This was one happy maid.

So, which are you? The kind who bosses your maid around, or who treats your maid with respect? They are paid a miserable income of about RM500-600 a month to do all the junk that people don't want to do!!! And here you go treating them like that.

Let me tell you, when you treat someone nicely, they will respect you in return. I had fantastic memories with my maid, young though I was.

She brought my bro and I to the field every single day in the evenings to mix with the other kids, whose maids brought them out too.

The maids played games with us, organised games for us, taught us to settle fights with a hand shake.. yeah, I remember that one. We all shook hands after a fight. Lol.

In return? The maids got a nice evening outside, speaking in their own mother tongue among each other, enjoying themselves. The kids were safe, and we made friends. The neighbours whom I was never introduced to?

Guess what. Their maids were confined to the house.

Yeah. Maids can be a blessing.. if you treat them with respect.

That's about it..
Joanne
